Lace front wigs are described with numbers like 13x4, 13x6, 5x5 and 360. These numbers tell you how much lace the wig has and where it is. That affects how you can part and style the hair, and how natural the hairline looks. This guide explains each option so you can choose with confidence.
How Lace Measurements Work
A lace measurement has two numbers, in inches. For a frontal, the first number is the width across the front hairline, measured from ear to ear. The second is how far the lace reaches back from the hairline. Hair is hand-tied into the lace, so anywhere there's lace, you can part the hair and it will look like it's growing from the scalp.
13x4 Lace Frontal
A 13x4 frontal has lace 13 inches across the front hairline and 4 inches deep.
- Parting: middle, side or free parting within the 4-inch area.
- Good for: everyday wear and a natural-looking hairline from ear to ear.
- Consider: deep side parts are more limited than with a 13x6.
13x6 Lace Frontal
A 13x6 frontal is the same width but extends 6 inches back from the hairline.
- Parting: more room for deep side parts and more parting placements.
- Good for: people who change their part often or want a deeper side part.
- Consider: more lace usually means a higher price than the 13x4 version of the same wig.
5x5 Lace Closure
A closure wig has a 5x5 inch square of lace at the front center, not lace from ear to ear.
- Parting: middle or slight side part within the 5x5 area.
- Good for: simple, low-maintenance styles with a defined part.
- Consider: it doesn't give you an ear-to-ear hairline, so styles that pull all the hair back show less lace.
360 Lace
A 360 lace wig has lace around the whole perimeter of the cap.
- Styling: lets you wear high ponytails and updos, because the hairline is visible all the way around.
- Good for: people who like to wear their hair up.
- Consider: there's more lace to install and look after.
HD Lace vs. Transparent Lace
The lace material matters too:
- HD lace is a very thin, fine lace designed to blend into the skin across a wide range of skin tones. Because it's so fine, it's also more delicate. Handle it gently and avoid harsh pulling.
- Transparent lace is slightly thicker and more durable. It still blends well, but may be a little more visible up close.
Quick Comparison
| Lace type | Lace area | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| 13x4 frontal | 13 in wide × 4 in deep | Natural ear-to-ear hairline, everyday parting |
| 13x6 frontal | 13 in wide × 6 in deep | Deep side parts and more parting options |
| 5x5 closure | 5 in × 5 in at the front center | Simple styles with a defined part |
| 360 lace | Around the full perimeter | Ponytails and updos |
Choosing the Right Option
If you mostly wear your hair down with a middle or side part, a 13x4 frontal is a balanced choice. If you like deep side parts, look at a 13x6. If you often wear your hair up, a 360 lace wig gives you the most flexibility.
Available lace types vary by wig. Each product page lists the exact lace options and the price for each one. You can compare them in our wig collection.
Important: Please try on your wig before cutting the lace. Under our Return & Refund Policy, the lace must be uncut and intact for a change-of-mind return.
